Virginia Conservation Network’s Fall Environmental Advocacy Fellowship

Launching our first *paid* Fall Environmental Advocacy Fellowship

The Virginia Conservation Network (VCN) will be continuing the success of our fellowship program with our first Fall Environmental Advocacy Fellowship for 2023!

Our previous classes of Fellows have continuously brought amazing knowledge and experience to our organization and Network. Their work throughout VCN’s various projects and initiatives was invaluable towards our Network’s effort of protecting Virginia’s environment and natural resources.

“During my time at the Virginia Conservation Network, I was fortunate to create incredible memories, seize valuable opportunities, and engage in profound learning moments. I cannot express how invaluable this experience has been for me, particularly as a first-generation college student and an individual of color. Seeing firsthand the impressive efforts being made for Virginia’s environment left a deep impression, and I’m genuinely grateful I could contribute. The doors that VCN has opened for me through its dedicated team and extensive partner network are too numerous to count. I couldn’t have asked for a better organization to be a part of.”

Tytus Suchotinunt, 2023 Summer Fellow

“VCN gave me an invaluable opportunity to get my foot in the door of the professional environmental world. The whole team was welcoming and helpful throughout the fellowship and I’ve built strong connections that I can draw on for years to come.”

Caroline Buttemere, 2023 Summer Fellow

Fall Fellowship Projects

Fellows will join the VCN team for Fall 2023 and work directly with a VCN Manager on one of the projects listed below, determined during the interview process. The projects listed below will help develop specific priorities critical to VCN’s continued efforts in Virginia’s environmental community. While the selected project would be the Fellow’s primary task, Fellows can take on other projects to grow their experience and knowledge.

  • Digital videography: Fellow will lead editing and adding production to VCN’s digital video library.
  • History of VCN: Fellow will research and compile VCN’s history as we reach our 50th-anniversary milestone.
  • Environmental Glossary: Fellow will develop and produce a reference library of environmental terms, projects, topics, and other potential words and ideas that may be a barrier to a person’s understanding of Virginia’s environmental work.
  • *Other projects may be added and offered based on VCN’s needs.*

Who Should Apply for the Environmental Fellowship?

The Environmental Advocacy Fellowship aims to build up our pipeline of professionals of color by facilitating opportunities for underrepresented communities to gain experience and knowledge in Virginia’s environmental network. Therefore, we highly encourage current students and recent graduates of color to apply.

Additionally, we want to acknowledge that those in the environmental community all bring a variety of knowledge and backgrounds to their work. As a result, we also encourage those who are pursuing or have received degrees and education in fields not directly related to the environment, to apply for the fellowship. As long as you have a desire to work in the environmental field, we would love to receive your application!

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. It is the policy of Virginia Conservation Network to consider all candidates equally without regard to age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or other non-merit factors.
