Supporting Flood Victims of Tropical Storm Helene

What’s Happening?

Catastrophic flooding, landslides, and extreme wind gusts from Tropical Storm Helene have ravaged Southern and Central Appalachia. Entire towns are isolated as access to roads has been shut off by flooding and landslides while cellular service has been degraded, shut off, or overwhelmed. Climate change is fueling the increased size and severity of these storms. These are our homes and communities that will have to recover from the damage for months — perhaps years — to come.

You Can Help

Our Partners at Appalachian Voices are compiling a Helene relief page that shares details about efforts to relief to impacted areas, including:

  • trusted organizations to donate to
  • items to donate and where to donate them
  • places to seek shelter in the region
  • operations that are signing up volunteers for future work when it is safe to travel
