Water Conservation Tips
Water, water everywhere, but is it safe to drink? Water quality and conservation have become a major issue here in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Agricultural Best Management Practices (Ag BMPs)
Virginia in recent years has made great strides toward reducing point source nutrient pollution by developing regulatory programs and providing more than $1 billion to upgrade local wastewater treatment plants.
Public Access to Resources
Unfortunately, as citizens attempt to access some of our Commonwealth’s resources, many have encountered major obstacles created by railroad company policies, which call for no new crossings for access and no multi-modal use of railroad right-of-ways.
Nutrient Pollution
Virginia has committed to reducing pollution to the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries from a variety of pollution sources. One major component of Virginia’s clean up plan—reductions from point sources of pollution—is under attack.
Wetlands Protection
Any development that disturbs wetlands must receive a 404 permit from the Army Corps of Engineers. Additionally, DEQ must permit or deny the disturbance through its 401 permit process. Virginia is considering the possibility.
Stormwater Pollution
An improved stormwater management program was established by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) that will allow Virginia to better accommodate both future urbanization and healthy waters.
Choose Clean Water Campaign
Bringing together people and more than 100 organizations from Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, working together to help everyone in the region choose clean water.
